OceanHub Africa (OHA) was launched in 2019 as an African ocean-impact catalyst, supporting the development of sustainable ocean innovations and the ecosystem to foster them. The organization strives to inspire and assist innovative impact tech and community-based ventures towards nurturing an environmentally conscious, equitable and profitable blue economy benefiting people and nature. Based in Cape Town, at the crossroads of three oceans, OHA operates pan-Africa virtually and through a network of local stakeholders.

About me

Alexis is the Founder and CEO of OceanHub Africa (OHA), an ocean-impact accelerator focusing on strengthening the development and adoption of new sustainable ocean solutions in Africa. He holds a BEng in Mechanical Engineering and an MSc in Environmental Engineering from Imperial College London. Former management and sustainable development consultant, he subsequently led R&D and intrapreneurship innovation efforts for a blue-chip construction company in Europe before moving to South Africa in 2017. He then led the development of a social-impact incubator focusing on digital technologies before launching OceanHub Africa. To date, OHA has run three acceleration programs with 16 ocean-impact startups, cofounded the 1000 Ocean Startups coalition of incubators and VCs focusing on SDG-14, co-led the development of the Great Blue Wall initiative in the Western Indian Ocean, and annually hosts the Ocean Innovation Africa Summit to promote innovative technologies, policies and finance to further sustainable blue growth continentally.

Alexis est le fondateur et le PDG d'OceanHub Africa (OHA), un accélérateur d'impact sur les océans qui vise à renforcer le développement et l'adoption de nouvelles solutions océaniques durables en Afrique. Il est titulaire d'un BEng en génie mécanique et d'un MSc en génie environnemental de l'Imperial College de Londres. Ancien consultant en gestion et en développement durable, il a ensuite dirigé les efforts de R&D et d'innovation intrapreneuriale pour une entreprise de construction de premier ordre en Europe avant de s'installer en Afrique du Sud en 2017. Il a ensuite dirigé le développement d'un incubateur à impact social axé sur les technologies numériques avant de lancer OceanHub Africa. À ce jour, l'OHA a mené trois programmes d'accélération avec 16 startups à impact océanique, a cofondé la coalition 1000 Ocean Startups d'incubateurs et de VCs axés sur l'ODD-14, a codirigé le développement de l'initiative Great Blue Wall dans l'océan Indien occidental et accueille chaque année le sommet Ocean Innovation Africa pour promouvoir des technologies, des politiques et des financements innovants afin de favoriser une croissance bleue durable à l'échelle du continent.
